Final Project

 Final Project:

Based on my beliefs I wanted to find a way to make my classroom more accessible to all of my parents. I have found that some use my Class Dojo, others need to use Email and others do not respond to either. 

After listening to others and watching some presentations I thought it would be a good idea to create a class website where all of our information would be stored. Parents could find important dates, links to other forms of communication and pictures of their children participating in activities at school.

I began playing around with Google Sites and have started the skeleton of a website

I need to complete my narrative 

review it and create a slide show 

do my voice over for the Pecha Kucha

  The link to my Kahoot tutorial can be found by clicking on the picture or by clicking here .   I picked Kahoot because it is something that I use regularly in my classroom and all of my students are able to access it. Some may need a bit of help getting into the actual game but they are all able to play. I teach Special Education/Multi-lingual learners in grades k-2 so having something that they can all access is important.  I use Kahoot on "Fun Friday" to play games. We play a lot of social emotional games to help us practice these skills. I also use this tool to collect data on my student's progress in academic areas. Worth it!

 Michael Wesch begins his Ted Talk describing his college classroom set up as a place used for dumping information into peoples heads.  He teaches college courses and really gets into the feelings that people have when taking classes. The feelings that I have had, taking many classes. Feelings about just getting by, sneaking past their education or education as a vaccine, I have it and I am done.  He had me at this point. I have been going to school continuously since 2011. I started at CCRI and got my associates, then I transferred to RIC for my undergrad in Elementary/Special Education . I finished RIC December 2019 and got a job where I was told that my 3 certifications were not enough and I would need to go back and get certified in TESOL.... So in the spring semester of 2020 I went back to RIC for my Masters... During the last 10 years there are 7 classes that I took and felt something more than "I am just getting by". Students and Technology

 Pensky   believes that  young people are essentially hard wired differently because of the world they were born into. He feels that the very way that they think is different from the "digital immigrants". There is discussion about the speed, process and access of "digital native" versus "digital immigrants, what they deem important text/ graphics and how they understand technology.  After listening to the Pensky I called my 12 year old into the room and told him that Fortnite was not real. He very pointedly told em that of course it was real. "what do you think I am doing? I am playing a game with real people in a real server".   Pensky also talks about the accent that "digital immigrants" have. The way that they use the language, the technology itself and their comfort level of technology separates the natives from the immigrants.                                  ...
